Oak Ridge, TN, October 11, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rebecca Rumbaugh Bowman, President of Information by Design, Inc., has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Information Systems & Database Development. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. Ms. Bowman was selected as an distinguished honoree based on her professional accomplishments, leadership abilities, years of service, and her experience in numerous industries and cultures that she provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
Ms. Bowman is an information systems and database development specialist. She has successfully trained individuals in more than 10 countries and 19 industries, and has worked with more than 90 clients in both the public and private sectors. She has offered her services internationally and in the U.S. for more than 20 years. Her greatest talent is working with people to form a consensus that results in a profitable outcome for everyone. She has exceptional skills in technical advising, developing conceptual frameworks, managing logistics and resources, and applying technology.
Ms. Bowman's work has centered on collaborating with people to help them understand, define, and reach their goals. In the early days, she helped clients build their accounting and information systems while working in the Management Advisory Division of a certified public accounting firm. She then worked for several retail computer companies demonstrating and installing software and training and supporting their customers after the sale. During this time, she also worked closely with an advertising and public relations firm as the Chief Financial Officer. In 1988, she decided to offer her services as an independent agent and founded Information by Design, Inc.
In 1995, international opportunities emerged. She began working for the U.S. Agency for International Development and the World Bank as a technical advisor in monitoring and evaluation, decentralization, and education, developing information tools and providing training. She also contracted with the Harvard Institute for International Development, the Academy for Educational Development, and the Mitchell Group in the Caribbean, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Western and Eastern Europe. As the technical advisor, she trained ministry staff of the host country and worked with them to develop database information systems. During this time she also developed customized database software programs for agricultural co-ops, farmers, and harvesters. She worked with the management and staff of Select Milk Producers, one of the largest dairy cooperatives in the U.S. to design, develop, and successfully implement the Milk Information Management System (MIMS).
For the past 2 ½ years, she has had the good fortune of working with Dr. Virginia Dale, director of the Center for Bio-Energy Sustainability at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, to launch and manage the Center. They have also organized and hosted a series of workshops to identify new sustainability research opportunities. These efforts have led her to work with other groups at Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Environmental Science Division organizing international workshops and a study tour with China.
Ms. Bowman's greatest talent is working with people and she enjoys bringing others together to exchange information and ideas. Her interest in social media is therefore a natural progression in her professional career, as it brings new opportunities for people to connect, identify common interests, and to build partnerships. It is her professional objective to help her clients successfully utilize the power of social media by delivering the tools, training, and support needed to realize their goals. Ms. Bowman's ability to put people at ease enhances their ability to communicate in a clear and relaxed fashion. The resulting communication elevates the understanding of everyone in the group. She attributes her success to her love for working with people, her ability to connect with others, and her openness to new possibilities.
Ms. Bowman received an associate degree in accounting in 1981 from Eastern New Mexico University. She is a Qualified Installer for Open Systems Accounting Software. She is a citizen and preferred vendor of the Chickasaw Nation and a former member of Rotary International. Looking ahead, she plans to continue to offer her services in information technology, public relations, social media and conference management.
